Kevin "Doc" J. Blum, 55, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota, Sioux Falls. Kevin was born July 7, 1956 in Flandreau to Harold and JoAnn (Johnson) Blum. He grew up at Flandreau and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1974. After graduating from high school he and his father started Blum Fireworks to help fund his college expenses. The business has continued through the family. Kevin attended SDSU in Brookings and graduated with a Psychology Degree in 1978 and then continued schooling until receiving his Master's Degree. Kevin returned to Flandreau and worked at Sunshine Farm Supply for 10 years. He returned to Brookings and worked at Career Learning Center in Brookings for 17 years. He had a niche for computers and started a small business on the side. Kevin was active with the Prairie Repertory Theater in Brookings. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, enjoyed photography, reading and a proud Democrat.
Kevin is survived by his mother, JoAnn Dailey, Flandreau; 2 brothers, Mike (fiancée, Becky) Blum, Flandreau, Marc (Kari) Blum, Flandreau; 4 step-siblings, Gail (Jim) Pfeifle, Cokato, MN, Graydon (Karen) Dailey, Belle Fourche, SD, Teresa (Steve) Kortus, Minneapolis, Erin (Joe) Konkol, Custer; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Kevin is preceded in death by his father, Harold Blum; step-father, Gordon Dailey and step-sister, Jane Dailey.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial at Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
