Obituary

Kathryn A. Sampson, 91, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Kathryn was born January 14, 1920 in Aberdeen, SD to Walter and Magdalena (Wolf) Mock. Kathryn attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1937. She attended Northern State University and received a teaching degree. In February of 1943 Kathryn married Clyde Peterson in Aberdeen. Clyde preceded her in death in July of 1943 while serving in WWII. Kathryn then taught in Frankfort, Raymond, Sinai, Sisseton and Watertown School Districts. On June 9, 1947 she married Dr. Lyndle Sampson in Aberdeen. They moved to Flandreau in April of 1950 where Dr. Sampson began his optometry practice. She then became a homemaker and raised her 4 sons. Dr. Sampson preceded her in death on April 11, 1999. Kathryn enjoyed reading, art, writing award winning poetry and crossword puzzles. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and was a former catechism teacher.

Kathryn is survived by 3 sons, Steven Sampson, Flandreau, Dr. Paul (Trisha) Sampson, Sioux Falls, Mark (Beth) Sampson, Plankinton; 8 grandchildren, Casey, Cory, Kyle, Chrissy, Margaret, Caitlyn, Sean and Nolan; 4 great-grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Miranda and Haley; 2 sisters, Agnes Witkowski, San Diego, CA, Martha Hill, Aberdeen; one brother, Fr. Timothy Mock, Dearborn Heights, MI and several nieces and nephews. Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband's; 1 son, David; her parents; 4 sisters, Sr. Leonilla Mock, Sr. Clare Mock, Genevieve Mock, Helen Johns and 2 brothers, Alex Mock and Fr. David Mock.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau with burial on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 1:30 PM at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a 7:00 PM rosary and scripture service.
