Kathryn M. Chadwick, 55, of Redmond, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Kathy was born on July 2, 1954 in Flandreau, SD to Raymond and Anna Buchholtz. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1972 and received a bachelor's and master's degree in social work from SDSU. She worked for the South Dakota Department of Social Services in child protection for 18 years. Kathy married Douglas K. Chadwick on December 15, 1990. They made their home in Sioux Falls until August, 1999, when they moved to the Seattle area. While in Washington, she remained active in her church and in raising her daughter. Kathy was very active in church, serving in various positions at Peace Lutheran in Sioux Falls, SD, Holy Cross Lutheran in Lake Stevens, WA, and Sammamish Hills Lutheran in Sammamish, WA.


Survivors include her husband, Doug Chadwick and daughter, Lauren Chadwick of Redmond, WA; stepson, Ryan (Jana) Chadwick of Rochester, MN; granddaughter, Elizabeth Chadwick of Rochester, MN; father, Raymond Buchholtz of Flandreau, SD; mother-in-law, Gladys Chadwick of Marshall, MN; sisters, Joanne Ambroson of Sioux Falls, SD; Cindy (Rick) Drennen of Flandreau, SD; brother, Richard (Gladys) Ambroson of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Claire (David) Nelson of New Brighton, MN; special cousins, Madonna (Wayne) Steensma and Barbara (Gary) Jones of Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous other loved family members and close friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Buchholtz and father-in-law, Kenneth Chadwick.

Memorial services were held on September 5, 2009 at Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church in Sammamish, WA at 11:00AM with burial at Union Cemetery in Flandreau on September 12, 2009 at 9:30AM. Memorial services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, on September 12, 2009 at 12:00PM.
