Kathleen Mary Wede was born on May 14, 1957 to Bernard and Nancy (Greene) Petersen in Cherokee, Iowa. She attended Sutherland Public Schools in Iowa and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1975. Kathi married Mike Wede on June 20, 1975 in Royal, Iowa. They moved to Flandreau soon after, and from this union they were blessed with three children; Jamie, Jason and Jill.

Kathi worked as a cook at Walkers in the late '70s-'80s, as a cage supervisor at the Royal River Casino, and in the add-on sales department at Gateway in Sioux Falls until 1998, when she had a disabling heart attack. Because of her various health issues, she frequented the Flandreau Clinic and Hospital. She sincerely appreciated all of the professional, loving care and friendship she received throughout the years from the staff. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and she believed in His word.

Kathi was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed birds, flowers, music, decorating, shopping, selling, playing cards, and spending time with friends and family.

On January 18, 2020, Kathi was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She faced the diagnosis with great strength and courage. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Mike; children: Jamie (Jami Jo) and grandson Errol Wede; Jason (Tressa) Wede, and grandchildren Keatyn, Kambyl and Kipton Wede; and Jill (Elena) Wede and granddaughter LaRae; brother, Robert (Theresa) Petersen and family; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Kathi was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Visitation will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Flandreau on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Private interment will take place at a later date.
