Judy M. Babcock, 77, of Flandreau, SD passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls. Judy was born April 5, 1940 in Flandreau, SD to Leon and Pansy (Duncan) Bachman. She graduated from Egan High School in 1958 and then went to the SD Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls for one year. Judy worked in Flandreau as a hairdresser and there she met Fred Petersen. They were married July 21, 1961 in Flandreau. They had three daughters, Jody, Mindy and Sally, and were married 17 years. Judy worked at the Flandreau Hospital in the kitchen as a cook. She met Donald Babcock and they were married September 9, 1989 in Flandreau. They lived south of Flandreau for 10 years before moving to Brookings in 1999. They moved back to Flandreau in 2010 and her husband preceded her in death on December 29, 2012. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Flandreau. Judy enjoyed laughter, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening and especially her family.
Judy is survived by three daughters, Jody (Tommy) Wallin-Clark, Sugar Land, TX; Mindy (Mike) Smith and Sally (Mike) Johnson, both of Flandreau; six grandchildren, Aspen, Gavin, Joshua, Matthew, Heather (Eric) Beltman, Megan (Craig) Veldkamp; four great-grandchildren, Aurora, Brooklyn, Blakely, Nora; sister Joanne Olson, Brookings and brother Dennis Bachman, Sioux Falls. Judy was preceded in death by her husband Don and her parents.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the United Methodist Church, Flandreau, with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.
