Joy A. Dudley, 76, of Egan, SD journeyed to be with our Lord on August 8, 2022, at the Palisades Care Center in Garretson, SD after a month-long illness.
Joy was born on June 18, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio to Paul and Grace (Evanoff) Mikowetz becoming the youngest of three sisters. She spent most of her childhood in Toledo attending school there until she moved to Florida to live with her dad and stepmom. She graduated from high school in Melbourne, FL in 1964. During her time in Florida Joy met David Dudley, the man that became her life partner and husband for fifty-six years. While living in Florida, they had two children together. In time their little family moved to Michigan where they spent four years enjoying the beautiful weather before returning to Florida for a couple more years. In 1979 David and Joy made the big decision to move to South Dakota to be close to family. They settled in Egan, SD and continued to live there until Joy made her journey. During her many years in Egan, Joy stayed busy with family, friends, and work. Welcoming a new baby boy in 1982 was a highlight of her life.
With her husband, Joy owned and operated Mom and Dad's Dry Cleaners in Flandreau, SD for six years. She also worked in the restaurant at Royal River Casino for twelve years. During her working years she met and made many close friends and although some passed on before her, she will be missed by many. She loved spending time with family and friends, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Joy spent her life caring and looking after others.
