John Darrell Hammer, 83, Sioux Falls, SD, and formerly of Elkton, SD, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019 at his home in Sioux Falls. John Darrell was born June 29, 1936 at Tyler, MN, to John A. and Laura (Stuefen) Hammer. He received his education in Chula Vista, CA, graduating from Sweetwater High School. His dad trained him to be a cement finisher. John Darrell taught concrete finishing for several years in Las Vegas for the Cement Finishers Union. In marriage and love he had four wonderful women. John Darrell returned to South Dakota in 1975 where he continued to make his home. He enjoyed travelling, his red boat, watching cowboy movies, and supported area sporting events; especially following Matt Hammer. In his early days he enjoyed hunting and fishing. John Darrell is survived by seven children: Nick, Toni, Darrell, Jamie, Brian, Dee Dee and Patsy; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Funeral services will be  3:00 pm Sunday, August 25, 2019 at United Parish of Elkton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Donations to the American Cancer Society.
