John Callan, 63, of Woodburn, Oregon, died September 09, 2017, in Woodburn, Oregon. He was born April 13, 1954, in Madison, South Dakota, the son of William J. and Betty J. (Costlow) Callan. John graduated from Madison High School Class of 1973. Following his graduation he worked for Callan Seed Company in Howard, SD later enrolling in Mitchell Area Vocational Technical School in their AG program. John grew up in the grain and seed business and followed in the footsteps of his great grandfather St John, his grandfather Callan and his father who all had grain and seed elevators. He was employed with Cenex Seed Co. in Ellis, moving from Sioux Falls in 1989 to Woodburn, Oregon. John worked as a foreman for the following companies in their seed and fertilizer plants, Wilco Farmers in Donald, Woodburn Fertilizer, Inc. and Wilber-Ellis, Co., retiring in 2017. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and over the years acquired a wide array of hunting and fishing paraphernalia utilizing them to their fullest extent. He also enjoyed his dogs, old western movies, football (the Oregon Ducks), history of the Civil War, current events, politics and travel to Ireland.

Surviving are his sister Connie Duncan and her husband Richard of Woodbridge, CA, brother-in-law Thom Coughlin of Florida, four nephews Greg Duncan Lodi, CA, Tim Duncan, Modesto, CA, Errick and James Coughlin of Cincinnati, Four Great Nieces, Five Great Nephews and his loyal Springer Spaniel (Nick). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jane.

Graveside services and internment will be held at 10:00 AM, July 5, 2018 at Graceland Cemetery, Madison, SD in the Callan Family plot. Arrangements by Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, SD.
