Jerlyn Sue Kotan, 51, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away at home Monday, June 22, 2020. Jerlyn was born March 7, 1969 in Flandreau, SD to Joel Kotan and Helen (Orton) Kotan. She spent some of her youth in the Black Hills and Colorado, and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1987. In 1994, Jerlyn married Greg Herman in Wisconsin and their son, Joel, was born in 1995. After moving to Sioux Falls, Jerlyn began attending classes through the University Center and National American University to major in Business while continuing to work and raise her son. Jerlyn worked at Lawrence & Shiller as a manager for over 10 years before becoming a Child Support Specialist for the South Dakota Department of Social Services. In 2018, she quit the workforce for medical reasons. In January 2018, Jerlyn was married to Kevin O'Keeffe in Tea, SD. Jerlyn will be remembered for her ability to cook, her interest in true crime, and the loving concern for her cat, Ivan, and the puppies she fostered. Jerlyn's family and friends will miss her funny and lighthearted humor, her big heart, and great attitude.

Jerlyn is survived by her husband, Kevin O'Keeffe and son Joel Herman, both of Sioux Falls; her father Joel Kotan, and step-mother, Annette Hemminger, both of Flandreau;  sisters: Sandra Kotan, Cambodia;  Shawn Dahmen, Flandreau;  and Carol Boellstorff, Lincoln, NE; and brother, Larry Kotan of Portland, OR. Jerlyn was preceded in death by her mother, Helen, and the father to her son, Greg.

Memorial Services will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a visitation beginning one hour prior.
