Janice "Janie"
Zephier
March 29, 1964 – December 8, 2025
Janice Mae Zephier, 61, of Flandreau, SD, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM, at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau.
Jan was born on March 29, 1964, to William and Betty (Fuller) Armstrong in Flandreau. She grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and community, attending local schools and graduating from Flandreau High School in 1982. She continued her education at Dakota State University, earning an Associate's Degree in Accounting—an accomplishment that reflected her determination and steady work ethic.
A devoted mother, Jan was blessed with two children, Amanda and Zach, who were the center of her life. She raised her family in the communities of Flandreau and Brookings, offering them, their friends and teammates, unconditional love, guidance, and support. Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her five grandchildren—Zavier, Akiah, Zaiden, Amir, and Armani—each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. Time spent with them was her greatest treasure.
Jan enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life sweet: baking and cooking for those she loved, curling up with a good book, and tuning into her favorite game shows. She was also a proud supporter of the Flandreau Fliers, cheering loudly for her hometown teams. Her kindness, humor, and loyalty touched many, including her cherished friends and family at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Amanda (Jocelyn) Zephier of Sioux Falls and Zach (Alison) Zephier of Flandreau; her beloved grandchildren; her siblings, Carol Pitts of Brookings, Kenny Armstrong and Ann (Mike) Brubaker of Rapid City, SD; brother-in-law, Sam Flinders; sisters-in-law, Gloria (Craig) Beckner, Laura Armstrong; and many nieces and nephews who adored her; and her amazing Good Samaritan Society co-workers. Janice was also a beloved member of Helena's Crew.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, William and Betty Armstrong; her brother, William Armstrong Jr.; her sister, Elaine Flinders; and her infant brother, Paul Armstrong.
Jan's legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
The family has requested memorials can be sent to Flandreau Flier Booster Club and The Warehouse Project in Jan's honor.
