James K. Latham, 91, of Flandreau died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. He was born November 22, 1919 at Flandreau, SD to Ervin and Mabel (Julson) Latham. He attended Flandreau Public Schools and then joined the National Guard. During WWII Headquarters Battery 2nd Battalion, 147th Field Artillery was called up and Jim served in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge, he returned to farm east of Flandreau. Jim married Clarice Van Buren in 1950 and he ran the SFP Gas Station for several years in the late 60's. Jim became a resident at Riverview Manor on April 15, 2005. He was a lifetime member of the Moody County VFW Post #3351.
Jim is survived by three grandchildren, Marc, Matthew, Kristen; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Hannah, Gram, Grady; daughter-in-law Rosie Van Buren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Louise Hammer and Hannah Smith, one brother Ben and one stepson Ronnie Van Buren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, September 16, 2011 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the chapel.
