James F. Collins, 84, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the United Living Center, Brookings. He was born October 25, 1928 to Clarence and Florence (McMahon) Collins on a farm near Flandreau, SD. Jim attended Yoe School in Moody County and graduated from Egan High School in 1946. Jim worked for Moore Construction until he was drafted into the Army on November 3, 1950. He served a year in Korea during the Korean War. After his discharge on August 2, 1952, Jim and brother Clair farmed together for 30 years. Jim was united in marriage to Bonita Reichelt on January 21, 1965 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Tea, SD. Jim enjoyed being with his family and raising cattle on the family farm. He worked with brother Bob on construction two years.
Grateful for sharing his life are his three children, Theresa, Lubbock, TX, Laura, Sioux City, IA, Arnold "Arnie", Brookings and four siblings, Bob, Clair, Alicia and Audrey. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Bonita, parents and brother Ed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 pm scripture service.
