James Caulfield, Sr., 73, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Avera Flandreau Medical Center, Flandreau. Jim was born July 11, 1938 at Flandreau, SD to Elton and Marilyn (Cochran) Caulfield and was educated in country schools near White, SD. Jim entered the US Navy and following his discharge he married Ardith Kautz on June 9, 1961 in Flandreau. He started farming near Pipestone, MN and then later farmed near Ward. Jim trucked for Midwest Coast, worked at Winter's Concrete in Pipestone and then worked for various farmers for most of his life. He then worked at Elkton Co-op and the fertilizer plant. Jim loved to ride horses, went on wagon trains and especially loved his grandkids and great-grandkids.


James is survived by his wife Ardith, Ward; 5 children, Deb Caulfield, Flandreau, Teresa Caulfield, Ward, James Caulfield, Jr., Willow Lake, SD, Tammy (Jon) Compton, Helena, MT, Tena (Brian) Kruger, Elkton; 8 grandchildren, Corey (Barb), Sheyanne, Kaitlin, Cordell, Zac, Lynden, Taylor, Samantha; 5 great-grandchildren, Loden, Delaney, Ashton, Carley, Kelvey; 1 brother Jerry (Sherry) Caulfield, Winnett, MT and 1 sister Joan (Gary) Young, Seward, NE. James was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Carson and brother Jay.


Funeral services will be Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a private family burial at Elkton City Cemetery, Elkton, SD. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
