Herbert Wolterstorff, 93, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Friday, November 4, 2022, under hospice care at Edgewood Prairie Crossings Assisted Living, Sioux Falls. Herbert was born December 7, 1928, to Nicholas and Jennie (Damstra) Wolterstorff at home in Nobles County, MN the second of 12 children. He apprenticed as a carpenter at a young age and enjoyed helping his mother bake cakes. Herb enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a tank driver. After his discharge, he returned home and  worked as a carpenter. Herb married Dorothy Meyer on June 17, 1955 in Ocheyedan, IA. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1959 and he worked commercial construction and he built their home. In 1970 they moved to Flandreau, SD. Herb started his own construction company with son Steve in 1977. After retiring Herb and Dorothy wintered in Arizona for many years and later moved to Sioux Falls in 2017. Herb was a member of Pipestone Christian Reformed Church, Pipestone, MN, where he was an elder for many years and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Herb is survived by his daughters, Linda (Tom) Biever, Brandon SD; Deb Grohs (Brian Oakleaf), Sioux Falls; son Steven (Lynn) Wolterstorff, Strandburg, SD; six grandchildren, Amanda Biever, Brandon, SD; Jessica Biever (Galen Spong), Kansas City, KS; Marissa (Jason) Thode, Brandon, SD; Amy (Pat) Carroll, Flandreau; Trevor (Danielle) Grohs, Egan, SD; Leah Sutter, St. Cloud, MN; four great-grandchildren, Ezra, Trace, Case, Briggs; four brothers, Cornelius, Peter, William, James, and two sisters, Matilda and Ruth.

Herb was preceded by his wife Dorothy; daughter Denise Sutter and her husband Jim; son-in-law Dale Grohs; great-grandsons, Tayden Grohs and baby Grohs; parents, one brother and  four sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
