Helen G. Schoeneman, 99, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Riverview Manor, Flandreau. Helen Gertrude was born October 21, 1912, in Pipestone County, MN to Paul and Ida (Rosnow) Klitzke. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ward, SD, and grew up as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Verdi, MN, where she was confirmed in 1927. She attended country school near Verdi and graduated from Verdi High School in 1931. Helen was united in marriage to Chris Schoeneman at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Verdi on November 17, 1940. Throughout most of their married life, they lived on the family farm by Ward, and were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ward where Helen was a member of Ladies' Aid. Her husband preceded her in death on March 9, 2000. Helen is lovingly remembered for her cooking and baking. Everyone who visited can remember her delicious sweet bread and all of the other homemade treats in her well-stocked freezer. She and Chris enjoyed getting together with neighbors and friends to celebrate birthdays and to play cards. Helen also enjoyed writing and receiving letters. She became a resident at Riverview Manor on September 1, 2006.
Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Vern and his wife, Peggy, Spirit Lake, IA; Harold and his wife, Becky, Elkton; five grandchildren, Lisa (Shawn) Streck and their children, Ashley and Morgan; Scott (Laura) Schoeneman; Joy (Brian) Landgraf and their children, Shayla, Cheyenne, Michael, and Charlene; Lori (Paul) Richards and their children, Faith and Christian John; and Lynae (Nathan) Kinner and their son, Adam; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Klitzke, Wessington Springs, SD; Vernice Visser, Fredericksburg, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and twin brothers, Alvin and Melvin.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ward, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Elkton.
