Hedwig "Wicky" Richter, 75, died Friday, April 23, 2010 at Avera Flandreau Medical Center. Hedwig was born February 15, 1935 in Kuenzlsau, Germany to David and Rosine (Schuhmacher) Kohn. She grew up and attended school in southern Germany. Wicky was married to Merlyn Richter on February 14, 1958 in Schwäbish, Gmünd, Germany. They moved to Colman, SD in 1958. They made home in Washington for a period of time before returning to the Moody County area. Wicky worked at Dakota Industries, Raven Industries and John Morrell's. She retired from Morrell's in June of 2000 and moved to Flandreau. Wicky enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening and taking care of her grandchildren.

Hedwig is survived by 6 children, David (Jerrilyn) Richter, Dell Rapids, John Richter, Dell Rapids, Larry Richter, Humboldt, Debra (Robert) Rave, Dandridge, TN, Kathy (Jeffrey) Weigel, Flandreau, Lori (Jerry George) Richter, Sioux Falls; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Hans (Helga) Kohn, Erich Kohn and 1 sister, Erna (Hans) NüBle all of Germany. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Gisela Kohn.


Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman with burial at Colman Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 – 8 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
