Hannah O. Smith, 98, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at Riverview Manor. Hannah was born on September 4, 1912 at Red Lake Falls, MN to Ervin and Mabel (Julson) Latham. The family returned to Moody County in 1917 and Hannah attended Flandreau Public School. She was baptized, confirmed and married by Pastor Blillie. Hannah married Roy K. Smith on June 4, 1930 at Our Savior's Lutheran Parsonage in Flandreau. They farmed north of Flandreau until retiring in 1980. They continued to live on the farm until 1997 when Roy preceded her in death on June 29, 1997. Hannah moved to an apartment in Flandreau and then to Greenleaf Assisted Living until becoming a resident at Riverview Manor on February 16, 2005. Hannah was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA and the Sunshine Club. She enjoyed gardening and was known for her hospitality and love for her family and friends. Hannah enjoyed caring for all children or anyone that needed her.
Hannah is survived by two daughters, Dorothea LaMere, Parkers Prairie, MN, Marilyn Powers, Flandreau; one son, Loren (Norma) Smith, Elkton; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a brother, James Latham, Flandreau. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy K., a grandson, Jeff LaMere, her parents, one brother, Ben, one sister, Mary Louise and two sons-in-law, Francis "Sanny" Powers and Bob LaMere.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm Wednesday with the family present at 6:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
