Obituary

Gordon S. Waxdahl, 64, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. Gordon was born November 30, 1944 in Pipestone, MN to Orville and Irma Grace (Dunn) Waxdahl. He received his education at Saby Country School and graduated Valedictorian from Flandreau High School in 1962. Gordon married Ginnie Donovan on April 9, 1966 in Belle Fourche, SD. He graduated from SDSU with a degree in electrical engineering in June 1966. He worked for G.E. and then Link in Binghamton, NY. In 1973 they moved to Minneapolis and Gordon worked for Honeywell where he worked on the space shuttle. They moved to Flandreau in April of 1976 and Gordon farmed with his father and brother southeast of Flandreau. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was treasurer the past 15 years and also held other church positions. Gordon was treasurer for Lone Rock Cemetery, clerk for Lone Rock Township for over 30 years and was president of the local Thrivent chapter. Gordon was a member of the Flandreau Alumni Band and was an avid fan of the SDSU basketball teams and Watertown Lakers hockey team.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Ginnie; a son, Tyler (Myra) Waxdahl, Watertown, SD, a daughter, Tricia (Dave) Warner, Flandreau; four grandchildren, Nathan, Erika, Caitlin and Justin; a sister, Florence (Delbert) Smallfield, Bloomington, MN, a brother, Donald (Rosanne), Flandreau and nieces and nephews. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 27, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Flandreau with burial in Lone Rock Lutheran Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Sunday with a 5:00 PM prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
