Glen Eikmeier, 74, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at his home on the family farm where he was born on August 5, 1936 to Earl and Edith (Young) Eikmeier. in their home on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Evangelical United Brethren, a country church near their farm. He attended Dailey Country School in Moody County for grades 1-7 and then rode with his brother and cousins to Jasper, MN where he graduated from high school in 1954. He attended South Dakota State College in Brookings and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry in 1958. Glen and Karen Thielsen were married August 9, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Flandreau and have attended there ever since. He returned to the farm after college graduation and worked for the partnership of his dad, Earl and Uncle Harry – Eikmeier Brothers, also known as Elmdale Farms. They raised registered Angus cattle. This was his passion for living as was livestock judging. Glen started his farm business called Eikmeier Livestock Systems in 1982 until health problems forced him to quit in 2000. He started kidney dialysis in August 2003. Glen was a member of the United Methodist Church, Alpha Zeta Fraternity, SDSU, and past president of the Minnesota Angus Association. He was the Pipestone County 4-H volunteer livestock judging team coach for many years. He also earned the American Angus Association's certified judging award and judged several of their shows plus many county fairs and shows.
Glen is survived by his wife, Karen; four children, Gary (Kathy), Pipestone, Linda (Mark) Goetz, Egan, Alan (Terra), Pipestone, Mary (Tim) Schmidt, Hawarden, IA; 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Grady, Melissa, Kristin, Lea, Leslie, Anna, Ty, Kara, Callie; one brother, Dale (Margaret) Eikmeier, Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Flandreau, with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Monday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
