Gladys M. Kreber, age 100, of Flandreau, SD, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at United Living Community in Brookings, SD. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, SD. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.

Gladys was born on June 15, 1923 to Louie and Marie (Tollgaard) Hammer in Flandreau, SD. She attended country school and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1940.  She then graduated from Stewart School in Sioux Falls and worked as a beautician until her marriage to Francis "Fritz" Kreber. The couple were married on November 15, 1945 at Flandreau. They farmed until 1980 when they moved to Flandreau where they would make their permanent home.

Sewing was both a necessity and a passion for Gladys. Other hobbies included, dancing, playing cards, and yearly trips to the fishing cabin in Canada. She and Fritz also enjoyed traveling the world together and visited many countries.

Gladys is survived by her children, Carol Welbig of Brookings, SD, James Kreber and his wife, Lynn of Mina, SD, and Mary Ehrichs and her husband, Tom of Egan, SD; sister, Edna Bragstad; 7 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Marie Hammer, husband, Fritz Kreber, brother, Donald Hammer, and son-in-law, Richard Welbig.
