Gilbert G. Cadotte, Sr., 76, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Riverview Manor. He was born July 31, 1933 at Mobridge, SD to Benjamin and Rose (Demery) Cadotte. He received his education at St. Joseph Elementary School and Marty Indian High School. Then he worked bridge construction helping build the railroad bridge near Mobridge. Gilbert married Wanda Robertson in Pipestone, MN on December 3, 1958. He worked as an instructional aide at the Flandreau Indian School for 10 years in the boy's dorm. He also sponsored the Rodeo Club at FIS. Gib worked for either the BIA or United Tribes in Sioux Falls, Pierre, Ft. Yates, ND, Wagner and retired from Niobrara, NE. He was a proud member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Rattlesnake Butte, SD and a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Gib enjoyed golfing, riding horseback, taking kids sledding and giving pony rides in his elder years.
Gib is survived by his wife, Wanda; a daughter, Carol Marie Seward, Flandreau; 4 sons, Benjamin and Tim , both of Flandreau, Gilbert Jr., of Mobridge, Steve of Flandreau; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a brother Clarence Cadotte, Mobridge and a sister, Sophie Verbanac, L'anse, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in First Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Thursday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
