Gerrit VanDyke of Egan, SD died Friday, November 27, 2009 at Southridge Care Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Gerrit was born on August 27, 1926 at Rock Rapids, IA to Dries and Margaret (Kracht) VanDyke. He attended schools in Iowa and Ward, SD. After his education he helped with the family farm then worked for various farmers. In 1947 he started working at Morrell Packing Co. in Sioux Falls. Gerrit was united in marriage to Henrietta Brands on January 26, 1950. They lived in Sioux Falls for two years. In 1952, they moved to a farm at Egan, SD until retirement in 1992. In 1996 Gerrit started working as security guard at T & R Electric in Colman, SD and worked there for eight years. Gerrit enjoyed horses and attending livestock auctions.

Gerrit is survived by his wife of 59 years, Henrietta, Egan; 6 children, Edwin (Becky Jo) VanDyke, Sioux Falls, Glen (Linda) VanDyke, Hysham, MT, Lester (Nancy) VanDyke, Flandreau, Roger (Angie Sutherland) VanDyke, Egan, Marianne (Greg) Kramer, Flandreau, Karolyn (Terry) Haas, Gary, SD; daughter-in-law, Brenda (Randy) Bovill, Pueblo, CO; 31 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Andrew (Ona) VanDyke, Brookings, Albert (Lorraine) VanDyke, Pipestone, MN, John VanDyke, Avoca, MN; 3 sisters, Hilda VanDyke, Sioux Falls, Henrietta DeVriend, Sioux Falls, Margaret DeRuyter, Holland, MN and 3 sisters-in-law. Gerrit is preceded in death by a son, Donald; his parents; 8 brothers; 2 sisters; 3 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.

Funeral service will be Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Reformed Church, Dell Rapids, SD with burial at Logan Reformed Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 5 – 8 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
