Gary W. Nass, 64, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his home in Brookings under hospice care. Gary was born on May 5, 1946 at Flandreau, SD to Kenneth and Bernice (Severeid) Nass. He attended Coleman Country School #63 and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1964. He farmed with his dad north of Flandreau until his marriage to Helen Petersen on March 5, 1965 at Flandreau. Gary & Helen farmed 4 miles west of Flandreau until buying the family farm in 1975 and continued farming until 1995. He was employed at Larson Manufacturing from 1995-2008, when ill health forced him to retire. They moved to Brookings in 1997. He enjoyed reading, spending time with family and his grandkids, and keeping their yard looking good. Gary was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Gary is survived by his wife Helen, Brookings; 2 children, Kimberly (Brett) Johanson, Flandreau, Michael (Pamela) Nass, Flandreau; 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Paige, Brooke, Kelly, Lane, Cassie; 1 great-granddaughter, Brynn; 2 sisters, Sharon (Duane) Bahn, Alexandria, MN and Jean (Ron) Yocum, Red Wing, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial at Union Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
