Gary C. Cochran, Jr., 57, of Flandreau, SD, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 at his home in Flandreau. Gary was born October 21, 1961 in Sisseton, SD, to Gary and Roberta (White) Cochran. They moved to Flandreau in 1972 where Gary attended school until he moved to Marty, SD, and graduated in 1979 from Marty Indian School. He worked around Flandreau until enlisting in the army March 16, 1982. He was stationed in Germany and received several distinguished ribbons. After Gary's discharge March 15, 1985, he returned to Flandreau where he met his soul mate, Lynn Eastman, in 1989. Gary started working at the Flandreau Indian School in 1991 until 2011 when he retired due to ill health. In high school he was a boxer and in cross country. Gary was a member of Gordon Weston Post and FIS Booster Club where he was an active supporter. He was a Denver Broncos fan, an avid sports fan and enjoyed pow-wows and watching his girls dance.

Gary is survived by his partner Lynn Eastman; four children, twin daughters, Cheyenna and Cayenna and son Chebon, all of Flandreau; June Marshall, Crow Creek, SD; four grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Wakeman and Roxanne Cochran and two brothers, Jim (Brenda) Cochran, and Joe Blackwolf, all of Flandreau. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jeff, two nieces, Danielle Budack and Cassandra Blackwolf, two nephews, Leland Thompson and Jeffrey Marshall Allen; and special grandmother Bertha Eastman.

NOTICE CHANGE OF LOCATION

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, May 20, 2019 at Wicaicago Otipi Community Center, with burial in First Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 pm Sunday with a 5:00 pm prayer service followed by an all night wake at the community center.
