Fritz Kreber, 91, died Saturday at the Flandreau Medical Center. Francis "Fritz" was born July 18, 1917 in St. Cloud, MN to William and Emma (Kestel) Kreber. At the age of two months, his family moved to Moody County, SD. He attended Fletcher Country School and Fritz graduated from Flandreau High School in 1934. He served in the 147th Field Artillery during WWII from November 1940 until July 1945. Fritz married Gladys M. Hammer on November 15, 1945 in Flandreau, SD. They farmed east of Flandreau until 1980 when he retired and they moved into Flandreau. Fritz was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, DAV, Moody County VFW Post #3351 and Kelley-Porter American Legion Post #70.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Gladys; three children, Carol Welbig, Brookings, James (Lynn), Mina, SD and Mary (Tom) Ehrichs, Egan; seven grandchildren, Ben, David, Paul, Jana, Doug, Jacob and Daniel; three step-grandchildren, Andrea, Hilary and Michael and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brandon, Preston, Kyrah, Kelsi, Jacey and Aaden; one brother, William (Virginia) Kreber, Minneapolis and one sister, Margaret (James)Cheek, Lillian, AL. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard, his parents and a sister, Helen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm Monday with a 6:00 pm scripture service all at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
