Florence Mengenhauser, 97, of Flandreau, SD passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Edgewood Vista, Flandreau. Florence Anna Louise Schroeder was born October 6, 1919, on the Schroeder farm west of Flandreau, to Herman and Mamie (Hammer) Schroeder. She attended Bell Country School #22 for eight years and graduated from Flandreau Public School in 1937. She went on to attend Business School in Mitchell, SD. In 1938 she was united in marriage to Ed Mengenhauser, in Mitchell, and they had their first son there. The family moved to Sioux Falls, SD where they had their second son. The family moved to Flandreau and made their home on the Schroeder farm. They would have three more children. Florence was an active member of Busy Bee and Hobby Clubs and hosted many card club events. She and Ed traveled to 48 states on the numerous bus trips they would take together. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church and was active in Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. Florence had a strong faith and was proud of the farm.
Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Roger (Glenda) Mengenhauser, Jean (Jerry) Berger, Jayne (Kim) Verhey; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; two sons, Garland and Richard; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, with a Liturgical Wake Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Skroch Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements
