Eunice B. Smallfield, Brookings, SD, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at her son's home in Sioux Falls, SD. Eunice was born July 3, 1940 at Flandreau, SD to Dale and Leola (Mogle) Fenicle. She graduated from Egan High School in 1958. Eunice worked as a telephone operator in Pipestone, MN, until she married Roger Ehlers on June 11, 1960 at the 2

Presbyterian Church in Flandreau, SD. After briefly living in Great Falls, Montanta, they returned to Flandreau to raise their family. She married John Smallfield on February 7, 1972 at the United Methodist Church in Flandreau. She worked several jobs throughout her life but was most proud of raising her children and being a homemaker. After raising her kids, she became active in the Saddle
Club and loved riding her horse Spyder. In 1992 Eunice moved to Brookings where she attended GracePoint Wesleyan Church and enjoyed helping in the nursery, being a greeter, and making prayer quilts. During her retirement, she loved getting together with friends to play cards, go dancing, or have a cup of coffee. Eunice's favorite thing to do was spend time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for always wanting a hug from the little ones.
Eunice is survived by three children, Marlys (Blaine) Ailts, Brookings; Connie (Bob) Van Diepen, Huron; Eddie (Michelle) Ehlers, Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Heather, Matthew, Jacob, Josh, Brittany, Kia, Tessa; nine great-grandchildren, Micah, Blake, Landon, Noah, Isabella, Jordyn, Addyson, Haidyn, Emmersyn and five siblings, Eldon (Nancy) and Lyle (Sid), both of Sioux Falls; Kenneth, Bend, OR; Gary (Nancy), Sioux Falls; and Leslie (Lynda) Baltic as well as an uncle and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Deloris "Dee" and nephew Bryan.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at GracePoint Wesleyan Church, Brookings, SD, with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
