Obituary

Ethel E. Wiese, 96, of Flandreau, SD, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at her home in Flandreau. Ethel was born June 5, 1920 on her family farm in Springcreek Township, Moody County, SD, to Orva and Eunice (Fisher) Scofield. She attended Jones Country School and Flandreau Public School. Ethel worked at the Pinnell Store in Flandreau until her marriage to Andrew Wiese on January 15, 1942 at Chester, SD. After her husband was discharged from the military, they moved to the home farm northwest of Flandreau in 1945. Ethel loved to sew, bake, host family and neighbors all while assisting her husband on their farm.  She had a flock of 800 laying hens and she sold eggs to the farm neighborhood. They moved into Flandreau in 1980 and Ethel worked in the kitchen at Flandreau High School for many years. Ethel hosted a Wednesday night supper for many years for her grandchildren and their friends before they would go to CCD and also the Sunday morning coffee crowd. Her husband preceded her in death February 2, 2003. Ethel was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, PW, the Sunshine Club and Royal Neighbors. She loved playing cards with friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren. Ethel watched a lot of sports on TV, especially the Minnesota Twins.


Ethel is survived by three sons, John (Marsha), Richard (Denise), Dennis (Julie), all of Flandreau; daughter-in-law Karin Wiese, Sioux Falls; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Maxine "Boots" Doyle, Flandreau. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, son Allan, infant son William Dean; and three brothers, Jim, LaMonte "Snick" and Norvald Sr.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Second Presbyterian Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, SD.
