Ethel T. Johnson, 82, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Riverview Manor in Flandreau. Ethel was born January 7, 1928 at Minneota, MN to Bertrand and Eliza (Haugen) Olevson. She received her education in Minneota and graduated from Minneota High School in 1945. Ethel worked as a telephone operator in Chicago until her marriage on June 15, 1947 at Minneota to Merlin Johnson. They lived in Flandreau where she worked for the Register of Deeds for several years. They wintered in Arizona for several years and traveled seeing many foreign countries. Merlin died on November 2, 1985 and Ethel has continued to live in Flandreau becoming a resident of Riverview Manor in October 2004. Ethel was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA, and was active in the Democratic Party.

Ethel is survived by 3 sons: Jay (Jo Ellen), Brookings, Tom, Yankton and Monte (Lorraine), Flandreau; 4 grandchildren: Amanda (Brian) Knutson, Sioux Falls, Kari (Paul) Montgomery, Guymon, OK, Travis (Brenda) Johnson, Minnetonka, MN and Terry (Rhiannon) Johnson, St. Louis Park, MN;7 great-grandchildren: Axel, Samantha, Timothy, Allison, Isabelle, Emma and Jameson and 2 sisters-in-law: Ona Olevson, Minneota and Deloris Johnson, Flandreau. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 1 sister, Alice and 1 brother, Bertrand.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial in Swedish Augustana Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation will begin at 4:00 pm Tuesday with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
