Ethel M. Halter, 97, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Avera Flandreau Medical Center. Ethel was born September 2, 1913 at Egan, SD to Leonard and Julia (Olson) Cameron. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1931 and attended General Beadle State Teacher's College in Madison and Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls, IA. She pursued her teaching ambition and taught for many years at Egan, Colman and Dell Rapids schools. Ethel married Ernest Halter on February 8, 1937 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau. They were married for 73 years. Ethel was very active with her church and community organizations in both the Colman and Flandreau areas. She was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Colman.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Ernest, Flandreau; 4 children, Corrine Wold, San Diego, CA, John Halter, Chandler, AZ, George Halter, Flandreau, Jean Halter, Flandreau; 8 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George Cameron and son-in-law, Alton Wold.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 3:00 pm Monday with a 4:00 pm Catholic Daughter Rosary and a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
