Esther N. Luttmann, 91, of Flandreau died Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls. Esther was born on August 10, 1917 in rural Moody County, SD to Marcus and Marie (Thorson) Gullickson. She graduated from Egan High School in 1935 and then attended Augustana College. She taught in Allen, Smyth, Coleman and Jones schools in rural Moody County and taught fourth grade at Spafford Grade School in Flandreau retiring in 1975. She married Ben Luttmann on Oct. 16, 1942 at Midway Lutheran Church and raised their seven children on a farm northwest of Flandreau. Ben preceded her in death on May 25, 2004. Esther was a life-long member of Midway Lutheran Church.


Esther is survived by 5 daughters: Jeanne Cloud (Donavon Pautzke), Northfield, MN; Gail (Larry) Headrick, Brandon, SD; Noreen Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD; Janna (Bill) Ellingson, Flandreau; Neela (Fred) Hundertfund, Johnson City, NY; a son, Gary (Roberta), Flandreau; 14 grandchildren; 29great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and a sister, Doris Southard, La Jolla, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband; 1 son, Kent; 1 grandson, Colby; 1 great- granddaughter, Alexis; son-in-law, Darrell; her parents; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 15, 2009 at 10:30 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial at Midway Lutheran Cemetery, Colman, SD. Visitation will begin at 3PM on Sunday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a 5 PM prayer service.
