Emily M. Johnson, 92, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Riverview Healthcare Community. Emily Haugen Johnson, daughter of Lars and Julia (Bjerke) Haugen was born January 29, 1923 on the family farm, Clare Township, northwest of Flandreau. Emily attended Chamberlin rural school in Moody County and graduated from Egan High School in 1940. After graduation she worked at various jobs including the local A.S.C. office until her marriage to Don K. Johnson on June 7, 1946 at Flandreau. Emily and Don moved a few times back and forth between South Dakota and California. Their first move to California was in 1949. Emily worked in the banking business during her working career. She worked at Farmers State Bank, Crocker Bank and Wells Fargo Bank retiring in 1986. In 1989 Don and Emily returned to Flandreau to make this their home. Emily was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and WELCA.
Emily is survived by her son Dale K. and wife Carolyn, of Flandreau, a daughter Debra K. and her husband Max Kamber of Dixon, CA, five grandchildren, Andrea (Scott) Hemmer, Colman, Daron (Erika Albers) Johnson, Jared (Ronda Medlen) Johnson, both of Sioux Falls, DeAnna Kamber of Munich, Germany and DaNae´ Kamber of San Diego, CA, five great-grandchildren, Anya and Quinn Hemmer, Colman, Lilly Medlen, Tegan and Brayden Johnson, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Lawrence Haugen, sister Lillian Thelen, two grandchildren, baby girl (Da´Lyn Johnson) and Chad Johnson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, March 16, 2015 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 – 4 pm Sunday with a 4 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
