Elvira M. Tubby, age 66, of Flandreau, passed away, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Flandreau Medical Center. Elvira "Mahpiyata Wacin Win" (Skydancer Woman) ThinElk Tubby made her journey to the spirit world on March 13, 2015. She was born on July 30, 1948 to Aloysious and Vivian ThinElk. She is enrolled with Rosebud Sioux Tribe. She was 1st runner up for princess with the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in 1968. She attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. She moved to Davis, CA and she met Carl Tubby of Choctaw, MS. Together they were blessed with three children, Sean "Matoska" Tubby, Gall "Pizi" Tubby, and Layla Tubby Luis of Choctaw, MS. She moved to Flandreau, SD and was employed with Royal River Casino for a number of years until she became ill with serious health issues. She resided in Flandreau at the time of her death. A strong Lakota woman, she loved life. Elvira was strong willed, compassionate, loving, generous, loyal and devoted as a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and a true friend. She loved her Lakota way of life and was a pipe carrier and a sundancer.
Elvira is survived by her son Gall "Pizi" Tubby, a daughter Layla Luis, both of Choctaw, MS, two sisters, Helen ThinElk Nickey and LaVon ThinElk Deuchar, both of Flandreau, three brothers, Gene ThinElk, Vermillion, SD, Alvin ThinElk, Flandreau, and Calvin ThinElk, Lake Andes, SD. She leaves behind her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins. Elvira was preceded in death by her son Sean Tubby and husband Carl Tubby of Choctaw, MS.
Visitation 5 - 7 pm Wednesday, March 18, 2015 with a 7 pm wake service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau. She will be laid to rest in Choctaw, MS. May her spirit fly free forever. Toksa!
