Elaine Elhoff, 88, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at Riverview Health Services, Flandreau. Elaine Blanch was born May 2, 1925 to Cy and Blanch (Thomas) Whaley at their home north of Colman, SD. She grew up in Moody County and attended Whaley Country School and graduated from Colman High School in 1943. Elaine married Benjamin Fred Elhoff on September 29, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD. She was a farm wife until they moved into Colman in 1976. Elaine worked at the Colman School in the kitchen for several years. Her husband preceded her in death on August 18, 1989. Elaine was a member of the Colman United Methodist Church, church circle, Jeffersonian Club, Eastern Star and more recently the United Methodist Church in Flandreau.
Elaine is survived by four children, Rose Ann Johnson (fiance Harvey Wittrock), Colman, Dale, Aurora, SD, Benjamin, Jr. (fiancée Denise Broghammer), Colman, Marilyn (Keith) Park, Colman, six grandchildren, Tammy, Troy, Jessica, Ashley, Becky Jo, Bryan, nine great-grandchildren, Nick, Paige, Krista, Gerald, Keneth, Kaycen, Jacie, Ashley, Mallory, one great-great-grandson, Bentley, one sister Janice (George) Thielsen, Sioux Falls, brother-in-law Charles Elhoff, Sr., Sioux Falls, and two sisters-in-law Harriet (Jerome) Kleinsasser and Donna Whaley, both of Brookings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Fred, infant son Phillip Fred, grandson Jason Lee Elhoff, great-granddaughter Shanalynn Marie Stimson, her parents, three brothers, Vernon, Sr., Marion, Kenneth and a nephew Vernon Whaley, Jr.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Flandreau with burial in the Colman Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 pm Monday at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Colman.
