Elaine Christenson, 86, died Saturday, January 08, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. Elaine was born January 6, 1925 at Flandreau, SD to William and Louise (Nebben) Petersen. She began her education at Chamberlain County School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1942. Elaine was married to Darrell W. Christenson on January 16, 1944 at Flandreau. They farmed northwest of Flandreau and moved into Flandreau in December 1977. Her husband preceded her in death on January 22, 1990. Elaine was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, chairman of Presbyterian Women, treasurer and secretary of circles, church Elder and Deacon, member of the Shrine Auxiliary, Cancer Board, and the Pleasant Hour Club. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and collecting recipes. She loved having all of the family for Christmas and helping grandchildren and great-grandchildren celebrate their birthdays. Words cannot capture her warmth, generosity and kindness. Her loyalty and understanding touched many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Elaine is survived by three children, Karen (Allan) Pulscher, Dell Rapids, Glenda (David) Halter, Gordon (Ruth Ann) Christenson, both of Flandreau; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lucille Lee, Green Valley, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, great-granddaughter, Tori and grand-daughter-in-law, Patty.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Second Presbyterian Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Monday with a 6:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
