Eda Mae Hasek, 74, died Saturday at the Flandreau Medical Center. Eda Mae was born April 12, 1933 at Dell Rapids, SD to Morris and Anna (Hoyme) Newhagen. She grew up in Egan and graduated from Egan High School in 1951. She received her teaching certificate from General Beadle College in Madison and taught school in rural Moody County. Eda Mae married Steven Hasek on June 17, 1956 in Flandreau. She sold Fuller Brushes for 17 years and in 1977 became the City Finance Officer in Egan. She retired in 1998 and continued to make her home in Egan until becoming a resident at Riverview Manor in April 2005. Her husband preceded her in death on March 14, 2008. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Egan Senior Citizens and served on the election board for 40 years.
Eda Mae is survived by a son, Tom Hasek, Egan; a daughter, Jeri (Mike) Kellen, Flandreau; and a brother, Richard (Joyce) Newhagen, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, and her parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Visitation will begin at 2pm Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with a 7pm prayer service.
