Dwayne "Shorty" Larson, 84, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at Riverview Healthcare Community, Flandreau. Dwayne was born October 21, 1930 in Flandreau, SD, to Floyd and Ruth (Ady) Larson. He attended Chamberlin Country School and graduated from Egan High School in 1948. Shorty married Myrna Nelson on May 4, 1951 in Pipestone, MN. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in November 1951 during the Korean War and served in North Carolina, Germany, Africa and Texas. After his discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1955, Shorty farmed southeast of Flandreau until 1997 when they moved into town. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, was active in the American Legion in Pipestone and then in Flandreau, VFW, and IOOF all for 50 plus years. Shorty was also an active member of the Flandreau Flier Booster Club serving as a former president and was a member of the Flier football chain gang both for over 40 years.
Shorty is survived by one son Michael (Carol), Egan, two daughters, Ruth Ann (Gordy) Christenson, Flandreau, Lisa (Todd) Sanderson, Elkton, nine grandchildren, Kevin Christenson, April Felton, Daron Christenson, Rick Larson, LiAnne Larson, Sarah Hemmer, Kyle Sanderson, Scott Sanderson, Amy Sanderson, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister Linda (Kent) Warne, Worland, WY, two nieces, two nephews, and brother-in-law Don Norby. He was preceded in death by his wife Myrna, parents, two sisters, Donna Norby and Marjorie Kenobbie, and one nephew David Kenobbie.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, October 9, 2015 at the United Methodist Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 – 7 pm Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7 pm prayer service.
