Obituary

Dwayne was born at Flandreau, SD, June 1, 1934 to Cecil and Lillian (Hell) Gulick. He received his education in the Flandreau Public Schools and continued his education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls. He served in the US Navy with the Fighting Seabees in Guam and Kodiak, AK. While in the service, Dwayne played on the Navy baseball team. Following the Navy, he married Darlene June Meeker on January 29, 1958 in Flandreau. Following the birth of their two sons, the family moved to Madison where he worked for Terrace Park Dairy for about 20 years. Dwayne and Darlene then moved to Mitchell to manage Motel 6. Dwayne retired from the Motel around 1994, about 3 years after Darlene's death. He retired to Lake Pomme de Terre in MO. Following a mild stroke in January, 2011, he moved to Tampa, FL, with his son, Tracy.

Dwayne was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his retirement years, he was a hunting guide in Colome, SD, at his friend's ranch. He spent much of his time traveling to see his sons, grandkids, and siblings.

He is survived by his two sons, Stephen (Lisa) of Hope, AR and Tracy of Tampa, FL; sister, Betty Smith of Rockledge, FL; brother, Kenneth of Viera, FL; and 4 grandchildren, Melissa, Stephanie, Valerie, and Christopher. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 10:00 - 2:00 pm at Skroch Funeral Chapel. Private family burial will be in Union Cemetery. Flandreau.
