Dwaine E. Latham, 83, of Flandreau, SD passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Avera Flandreau Hospital. Dwaine was born February 12, 1937 at Flandreau, SD to Benjamin and Marjorie (Headrick) Latham. He was raised in the Elkton, SD area and graduated from Elkton High School in 1956. He farmed with his dad and other area farmers and joined the 147 ^th National Guard Unit in Flandreau. Dwaine married Phyllis Cherney on October 11, 1959 in Flandreau. He worked for H.E. Mills in Brookings, SD and as a farm hand in Flandreau. Dwaine owned the Moody County Oil Gas Station for many years. He worked at the Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store and then Eaton Dakota. In 1989 Dwaine started working for Loiseau Construction as a heavy equipment operator until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed hunting trips, fishing, camping, shooting trap, and spending time with his high school classmates. Dwaine was a former fire chief for the Flandreau Volunteer Fire Department.

Dwaine is survived by his wife Phyllis; two sons, Donny (Vicki), Renner, SD; Darwin (Kathy Lunday), Flandreau; 12 grandchildren, Kayla, Samantha, Brittany, Whitney, Angela, Amber, Chastity, Chase, Kyndall, Kaitlyn, Karli, and Kole; several great-grandchildren; brother Wilbur (Virginia) Latham, Litchfield, MN; sister Darlene Dokken, Brookings; and many nieces and nephews. Dwaine was preceded in death by his son David, parents, brother Robert and brother-in-law Dennis Dokken.

Private family funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation without the family present will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday with masks highly recommended.
