Doyal O. Biteler, 88, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Riverview Manor. Doyal was born on August 23, 1922 at Sioux Falls, SD to Otto and Emma (Horn) Biteler. He received his education at Lathrop Country School until eighth grade and then farmed with his dad north of Flandreau. Doyal was married on June 26, 1946 at Egan, SD to Evelyn Beyer and he continued farming northwest of Flandreau. He farmed until 1994 when he retired due to his health. He did custom combining, corn shelling and other various farming work throughout his life. Doyal was very mechanical and enjoyed good company with anyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one son, Kenneth Biteler, DeSmet, SD and one daughter, Arlys (Ron) Janssen, Brookings; three grandchildren, Tara (Craig) Kuck, Shane Janssen, Lynell Tande; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Albright, Flandreau and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Ila Biteler, his parents and one brother, Homer Biteler.


Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Saturday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Friday with the family present from 4:00–6:00 pm at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Riverview Manor.
