IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Marion
Pulscher
July 31, 1934 – November 2, 2020
Dorothy Marion (Gullickson) Pulscher was born July 31, 1934 on the family farm in Colman Township, South Dakota. At age 86 on November 2, 2020 she passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family at Shannon Pulscher's farm where she had previously lived for many years. Dorothy grew up at the family farm northwest of Flandreau. She went to Bell Country School until third grade and then graduated from Colman Country School in 8 th grade. Dorothy went to Flandreau High School and graduated from there in 1952. Dorothy married Dean Pulscher on July 15, 1954 at Midway Lutheran Church. They had four biological children; Gordon, Janet, Steven and Shannon. Dorothy opened her home to so many more children who needed her--including several foster children and relatives who needed care. Later in life she cared for close relatives and opened her home to babysit her grandchildren. Dean and Dorothy moved to Custer, South Dakota in 1978. In March 1987 they moved back to Flandreau and stayed in Flandreau. Dean and Dorothy along with family and friends built a log cabin on the Big Sioux River and enjoyed making family memories there with their children and friends. Snowmobilers on the river could stop and warm up and the guestbook included visitors from as far away as Germany. Sadly, Dorothy lost the love of her life, Dean in 1989. Dorothy was always a very hard worker and had numerous paid and unpaid jobs throughout her life. She worked several years at the Riverview Manor. She also worked at the Sylvan Lake Lodge, the State Hospital and Custer's Outlaw Ranch and then once back in Flandreau at the historic St. Vincent Hotel. She was known to cook pot roast for farm hands and serve it to them on her fine china out in the field. She drove chemical truck for Ramsdell's and Virgil Stembaugh--and could still throw square hay bales well into her 60s. A lover of music, she could play banjo, guitar, piano, accordion, harmonica and organ. She loved old time country music. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing with her family. Dorothy enjoyed adventure and travel and visited her son Steven in Belgium as well as taking numerous trips with her sisters and family members. After moving into Flandreau, she loved to socialize with her neighbors and play cards and attend "block" parties. A good shot with a rifle and shotgun, Dorothy wasn't afraid to tackle raccoons on the farm and take on ornery wildlife.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother and father Doretta and Marvin Gullickson, her brother Donald Gullickson, her husband Dean Pulscher, several brother-in-laws and her great granddaughter Charly Rose Holmstrom. She is survived by her children Gordon (Brenda) Pulscher, Janet (Trent) Beltman, Steven (Deborah) Pulscher and Shannon (Jean) Pulscher; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 10 siblings: Alvin (Sharon) Gullickson; David (Elaine) Gullickson; Rev.
