Obituary

Dorothy L. Olson, age 88, of Sioux Falls formerly of Trent, SD died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at her home in Sioux Falls, SD with her children by her side. She was born June 14, 1921, in rural Moody County, to Soren and Bessie (Ferdig) Sorensen. She attended grade school at Kirkland Country School and attended Egan and Flandreau High School. She worked at Sorensen's Cafe & Liquor Store, owned by her mother and father, in Trent, SD. Dorothy was united in marriage to Gordon L. Olson on November 1, 1941 in Luverne, MN. They resided in Vallejo, CA during WWII, were she worked at Mare Island. When her husband returned from the Aleutian Islands they moved to Trent, SD. They briefly lived in Ventura, CA. Upon returning to South Dakota, they resided on the family farm until moving to Trent in 1967. During that time Dorothy worked at numerous places including Prairie Junction, Colman, Dells Cafe and Dutch Inn, Dell Rapids and retired from the Glass House in Ihlen, MN. After her husband's death on March 21, 1994 she moved to Sioux Falls. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member of the Trent American Legion Auxiliary Post #122 serving as past president. She was a member of the Moody County Rustlers originally formed as a county extension club in 1961.

Gratefully sharing her life were her five children, Nancy (Lowell) Haagenson, Omaha, Kenny Olson, Hills, MN, Peggy (Gary) Fisher, Luverne, MN, Patti Campbell (Keith Bunker), Richmond, MN, Julie Greve (Al Flanigan), Hills, MN; 10 grandchildren, Brigitte (Hector), Chad, Robbie Jo (Brent), Melissa, Kimberly, Lani Jo (Scott), James, Alecia (Brian), Chaya (Mikey) and Christina (Pappy); 23 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brody, Zoe, Kennedy, Karson, Kole, Kamden, Katy, Paxton, Addysen, Gracie, Dylan, Marah, Zan, Payton, Sayler, Ella, Hayden, Gage, Levi, Jordon, Mckenzie and Kaydra; two great-great-grandchildren, Savannah and Jaxon; one sister, Ruby Sorensen, many nieces and nephews, many close friends and family and her cat, Bessie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Olson, one infant son, Leroy Olson, one grandson, Ryan Fisher, a son-in-law, Gus Greve; her parents and two brothers, Edward and Allen Sorensen.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Trent, with burial in Oslo Cemetery. Visitation beings at 5:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with a 7:30 pm prayer service.
