Flandreau - Dorothy H. Doyle, 80, died Wednesday at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. Dorothy was born February 16, 1928 on a farm northwest of Flandreau, SD in Clare Township to Henry and Gretchen (Meyer) Drewes. She was educated in Tidd Country School and graduated from Egan High School in 1946. Dorothy married Lawrence Doyle on July 2, 1947 in Flandreau. They farmed in the Ward and Elkton area and then farmed in Clare Township until 1983. Dorothy worked in the kitchen at Brookings Public School and then for many years at Spafford Grade School in Flandreau, retiring in 2006. Dorothy was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Altar Society and Clare Extension Club. She was a bird lover, especially cardinals, and like to coffee with friends and was a great bumbashies baker. Dorothy was a faithful caregiver for several years for her husband, Lawrence who was afflicted with MS and preceded her in death on May 28, 2008 and was also a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She is survived by one daughter, Darlene (Dick) Heinricy, Colman; three sons, Doug (Norene), Elkton, Gordon, Madison and Mark, Flandreau; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Shane, Paula, Todd, Dan, Kerri, Chris, Shanna, Chris; 12 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Marlys) Drewes, Flandreau and a sister, Helen Madsen, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, her parents and three sisters, Gertrude, Viola and Alice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm Sunday with a 5:00 pm scripture service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
