Donna Lee Whaley, 82, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at United Community Living, Brookings, SD. Donna was born April 22, 1931 in Artesian, SD to Carol and Kathryn (Hoisington) Critser. They moved to Flandreau, SD and Donna graduated from Flandreau High School in 1949. Donna married Kenneth Whaley on September 18, 1949 in Flandreau. She worked at Sioux Valley Electric for several years and as church secretary at United Methodist Church in Flandreau. They farmed west of Flandreau together for 40 years and when they moved to Brookings, SD she worked at Cole's until she retired. Her husband preceded her in death on February 14, 2012. Donna was a member of First United Methodist Church, former member of United Methodist Church in Flandreau, Worthy Grand Matron of Eastern Star and was a Moody County 4-H leader. She directed three musicals in Flandreau and enjoyed music, boating, snowmobiling, skiing, working with horses, and playing cards. Donna loved decorating the house for the holidays and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her four children, Stephne (Greg) Miller, Machelle (Brad) Bonde, Bradley (Julie) Whaley and Mark (Elizabeth) Whaley, all of Brookings, 11 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, three sisters, Barbara Gottsch, Sioux Falls, Sharon Mains, Garretson, SD, Nancy (Ed) Heyduk, Fort Mohave, AZ, one sister-in-law, Janice (George) Thielsen, Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents and one sister Jeanne Walberg.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, November 21, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Brookings, SD with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation is from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Eastern Star service on Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
