Donald F. Schmidt, 78, Elkton, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at his home in Elkton. Donald was born November 11, 1937 at Flandreau, SD to Fred and Winnie (Davis) Schmidt. He started his education at Sunnyside School District #29 and graduated from Elkton High School in 1955. Don entered the Air Force on August 14, 1956 and served four years being stationed in Mississippi, Texas and Korea. Don married Barbara Albrecht on December 29, 1956 at Skokie, IL. Don was discharged from the Air Force on August 13, 1960 and starting working as an electrician in Illinois. He married JoAnne Blinstrup on July 14, 1979 at Berwyn, IL and they moved to Elkton in 1981. He worked for the Brookings Utilities and due to an injury he retired. Don was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Glen Stafford American Legion Post #198, Elkton, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and driving around in his truck.


Don is survived by his wife, JoAnne, three children, Don "Butch" (Judy) Schmidt, Crystal Lake, IL; Linda (Eli) Orfanos, Grayslake, IL; Dan (Kelli) Schmidt, Arlington Heights, IL; four stepchildren, Brian (Shelly) Sullivan, Grand Forks, ND; Erin (Kevin) Tetzlaff, Brookings; Shawn (Elizabeth) Sullivan, Joliet, IL; Patrick (Barbara) Sullivan, Locust Grove, GA; 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Dale (Gloria) Schmidt, Sioux Falls and John Schmidt, Brookings. Don was preceded in death by one daughter Beth Ann Hibner, parents, four siblings, Shirley, Stanley, Roger and James.
