Obituary

Donald K. Johnson, 89, died Saturday September 19, 2009 at Riverview Manor in Flandreau. Don was born Dec. 14, 1919 on a farm northwest of Flandreau to Albert J. and Amanda (Ambroson) Johnson. He received his education in Flandreau Public School graduating in 1938. D.K. worked for McLaren Dray and Transfer until he was called to active duty on Nov. 25, 1940 with the local unit of the 147th Field Artillery National Guard. After serving in the South Pacific for over three years, he was discharged from the Army on May 15, 1945 and returned to Flandreau. Don married Emily Haugen on June 7, 1946 at Flandreau. He then was employed by Eide Implement until 1949 when they moved to California. He was employed by agricultural and industrial equipment companies, and also with a large school system from which he retired. They returned to Flandreau in 1989 to make their home. Don was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Flandreau V.F.W. Post #3351.

Don is survived by his wife, Emily; one son, Dale K. (Carolyn), Flandreau; a daughter, Debra K. (Max) Kamber, Dixon, CA; five grandchildren, Andrea (Scott) Hemmer, Daron Johnson, Jared Johnson, DeAnna Kamber, DaNae Kamber and a great-granddaughter, Anya Hemmer; a brother, Newell (Barbara) Johnson, Big Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by a grandson and a granddaughter, his parents, one brother, Dwaine, one infant brother, Lloyd and two sisters, Lavonne Dailey and Evelyn Ziemer.


Services will be Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau. Visitation beginning 2:00 pm Wednesday with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service at Skroch Funeral Chapel.
