Donald F. Barthel, 78, of Flandreau, SD, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Riverview Healthcare Community. Don was born July 20, 1941 at Flandreau, SD, to Albert and Agnes (Klees) Barthel. He grew up at Ward, SD, where he went to grade school. Don graduated from Elkton High School in 1959. He entered the SD Army National Guard 147 ^th Field Artillery, Flandreau, right out of high school. Don farmed with his dad until 1982 and then worked at Eaton Technology, Flandreau, Builders Square and Ernst both in Sioux Falls, and Rainbow Play Systems in Brookings until he retired. Don was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and served on the Board of Directors for Bethel Home and Foundation Board. He loved the outdoors, gardening, mowing and watching football.

Don is survived by his wife Jane; three children, Lorraine (Joe) Clark, Carver, MN; John Barthel, Owatonna, MN; Margaret Barthel, Chaska, MN; six grandchildren, Shannon Clark, Nikitta Homann, Justin Clark, Austin West, Karlie West, Christipher West; three great-grandchildren, Karissa, Levon and Soren; and one sister Delores Rose, Sioux Falls, SD. Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm Monday with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
