Don H. Wade, 77, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 under hospice care at his home in Flandreau. Don was born June 29, 1936 to Ross and Clara (Allen) Wade in Tuba City, AZ. They moved to Flandreau, SD and he graduated from Flandreau High School in 1954. He attended SDSU in Brookings for one year and then one year at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. Don married Kittie Colwill on June 29, 1957 in Flandreau. Don was in the 147
th
Field Artillery National Guard Unit from 1954-1960 and then the 713
th
Tank BM Army Reserve from 1960-1962. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho and New Mexico, SD Department of Transportation and Colwill Brothers Excavating both in Sioux Falls and construction companies in Arizona and Pine Ridge, SD. They moved to Flandreau, SD in 1972 and Don owned Wade Construction and also worked for the Department of the Interior. Don retired in 2001. Don was a member of the FSST, past-president of the Minority Contractors Assoc. of SD, Board of Trustees for the Flandreau Municipal Hospital, Chairman of the Board for the Flandreau Medical Center, Chairman of the FSST Housing Authority, was on the Gaming Commission, and on the National and SD State Advisory Board for Green Thumb, Inc. Don loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, gunsmithing, target shooting and even built a log cabin from scratch on Lake Hendricks. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. Don was a devout Christian man who loved the Lord and served the church in many fashions over the years.
Don is survived by his wife Kittie, son Randy (Inday), Aberdeen, SD, grandsons, Hunter and Tanner, daughter Peggy (Jim) Wade Geffre, Aberdeen, grandsons, Jeremy (Sheena) and Ryan, Bonnie Wade, Flandreau, granddaughter Jessica Wade Blubaugh, three great-grandchildren, Syri, Cameron, Cayden, one favorite sister Dorothy (Rolfe) Black, Dallas, TX, one brother Dean (Terri) Wade, Ft. Worth, TX and sister-in-law Marilyn Wade, Flandreau. Don was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ross A. Wade and Jon C. Wade.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial in First Presbyterian Cemetery, Flandreau. Visitation begins at 5:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
