Obituary

Dion Twain Stephens was born on October 22, 1965 to Lee Mack Stephens and Vada Nickey. Dion was 56 years old when he was called home on February 24,2022 in Sioux Falls, SD. Dion spent his younger years in Bogue Homa community, MS and then moved to Flandreau, SD where he resided until his death.

Dion was very athletic and participated in softball, basketball, archery, and bowling. He was passionate in playing drums and performing music. Dion loved spending time with his family going on vacations, to concerts and sporting events. He adored his children and his niece and grand nieces. He was kind and caring to everyone he knew and will truly be missed.

Dion graduated high school at Flandreau High School in 1984. He attended vocational school for auto mechanics and would spend time fixing family members' vehicles. Dion then was employed at the Royal River Casino where he worked as a porter for 28 years. He was a hard worker and was very proud of his accomplishments there.

Dion met his wife Teresa while working at the Royal River Casino. They were married July 28, 2000 and resided in Flandreau and raised three children.

He is survived by his wife Teresa (Kneebone) Stephens; two sons, Zachery Stephens and Chaz Stephens; and daughter, Maggie Stephens all of Flandreau; brother Ted (Rogene) Stephens, Flandreau; niece Brittany Davis and two grand nieces Finnley and Remi Davis, all of Sioux Falls.

He also survived by parents-in-law Darold and Dorothy Kneebone, Flandreau; brother-in-law Dale Kneebone, Sinai, SD; sisters-in-law Darlis Kneebone, Brookings, SD and Janel Kneebone, Flandreau; uncle Nathaniel (Helen) Nickey, Flandreau; and aunts: Ruby Thompson, Madison, SD; Kathleen Jefferson, Sandersville, MS; May McGeisey, Choctaw, MS; Shirley Sherman, Vicksburg, MS; Elizabeth Denson, Choctaw, MS; and Mary Francis Isom, Conehatta, MS, and many cousins.

Dion is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents William C. Nickey and Josephine (Anderson) Nickey; paternal grandparents Felix Stephens and Martha (Farmer) Stephens; father Lee Mack Stephens, mother Vada Nickey, brother Mark Stephens; and aunts: Emmaline Lewis; Rosie Joe, Delenda Ruth Stephens; Bertha Stephens and Hazel Stephens Martin.

Visitation will be from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm on Monday, February 28, 2022 with a 6:30 pm prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau. A memorial dinner will follow at the Royal River Casino "Royal Room", Flandreau. Funeral services with interment at Bogue Homa Cemetery, Choctaw, Mississippi will take place at a later date.
