Derrick R. Westover, 26, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at his home. Derrick was born on August 18, 1988 to Todd and Jacqueline (Stimpson) Westover in Sioux Falls. He lived in Egan until he was one, when the family moved to Garretson. He attended school in Garretson and graduated in 2007. After school he worked at T&R Electric and then joined the Army. He was employed at Midwest Railcar for the last four years. Derrick enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, the Green Bay Packers, archery, kids, and pitching for the baseball team. Derrick loved to help others and always had a big smile on his face. He had a heart of gold and loved spending time with family and friends.

Derrick is survived by his parents; sister Courtney Westover, Garretson; grandmother Jane Stimpson, Yankton, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Derrick was preceded in death by his grandparents; James Stimpson, Robert and Arline Westover; two uncles, Merle Westover and Kenny Westover.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson, with burial at Lone Rock Cemetery, Flandreau, SD. Visitation is from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday at the church.
